This painting started with a bird on a wildlife camera. He was a simple bird looking into a camera with such a quizzical look on his face. At the time I saw it, I found it whimsical. I have always been a person who has a deep appreciation for whimsy. As an artist I was discovering that whimsy is a part of my expression. It brings me joy and it brings joy to those who see it. So he sparked an idea that led to a series of paintings. 

At the time I began with him when I prepared to paint a painting. I would sometimes take a month or two just seeking God for the scripture or picture that was His theme for a painting. So many of my paintings of the past were a process that was different from this one. In this painting I felt God was nudging me to switch up the process and just have fun creating with Him.  I was to  allow Him to reveal the true meaning of the painting after I painted it. Little did I know the journey He had for me.  I was not to lean on my own understanding and He would lead my path for this painting (Proverbs 3:5-6). 

Little did I know what this painting would come to mean to me. Of course they say a picture can say a thousand words. What a painting speaks to the artist may not be what it speaks to the beholder. It does not change the meaning of what the person who created it to be. Yet when the beholder looks upon it, it can take on a meaning for them that may be all new and different. 

This is partly why it is titled “Curiosity”.  I did this partly because I saw that in his quizzical look. Also because I felt it needed to carry that in the picture I was trying to portray.
